New leadership to Excise and Registrar of Persons Departments

The Cabinet of Ministers at their meeting on Monday approved appointing new leadership for Department of Registration of Persons and Excise Department.

Speaking at the post-Cabinet meeting media briefing, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Vijitha Herath said M.S.P. Sooriyapperuma, a special grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, was appointed as the Acting Commissioner General of Registration of Persons.

In addition, he said U.D.N. Jayaweera, a special grade officer of the Inland Revenue Service, who is presently serving as an Additional Secretary (Agency Coordination II) of the President Secretariat, was appointed as the Commissioner General of Excise of the Department of Sri Lanka Excise with immediate effect.

Herath said Sri Lanka Excise Department is a key revenue collection agency of the State and the efficiency and the good governance of this Department directly affects the revenue of the Government.
