Ajith Nivard Cabraal

Ajith Nivard Cabraal has been appointed as the Senior Advisor on Economic Affairs to the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.  Nivard Cabraal served as the Governor of the Central Bank when Mahinda Rajapaksa was the President.

The latest appointment means Cabraal will not return to the Central Bank when current Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy retires on 20 December, as exclusively reported by the Daily FT on Monday.  Political circles maintained that Cabraal, a Chartered Accountant, is likely to enter the next Parliament via the National List.
