No final decision on Trincomalee oil tanks yet: CPC Chairman

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) Chairman Sumith Wijesinghe said no final decision has been reached with regard to the oil tanks in Trincomalee, as discussions with Indian stakeholders are ongoing.

“The discussions have still not reached a final agreement. Our aim is to develop these oil tanks to the advantage of our economy,” the CPC Chairman told the Daily FT.

He said the Energy Ministry, CPC, Lanka IOC and Indian High Commission are involved in the discussions.

“For the past 18 years, none of the governments have developed these oil tanks. Only when President Gotabaya Rajapaksa came into power was it decided to make these oil tanks economically viable,” he added.

Wijesinghe also said that no decision had been taken to form a subsidiary company to manage the oil tanks in Trincomalee.

“There are many rumours about it, but these are all proposals and no final agreement has been made. Once a decision is arrived at, it will be officially announced,” he added.
