Oct. consumer inflation rate hits record high

Reuters: Sri Lanka’s consumer inflation rate rose to a record high of 7.8% in October from a year earlier, compared with the previous month’s 7.1% rise, under a revised base-year and market basket, Government data showed on Tuesday.

Core annual inflation, which excludes fresh food, energy, transport, rice and coconuts, was at 5.8% in October on an annual basis but eased from the previous month’s 6%, the index with a new base year of 2013 showed. 

On a month-on-month basis, the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) rose 0.9% this month, compared with a 0.8% rise in September, data from the Department of Census and Statistics showed.

Inflation rate in October as measured on a 12-month moving average basis rose to a record high of 6.1% from the previous month’s 5.8%.
