Sri Lanka recorded a COVID-19 death yesterday, when a 45-year-old returnee from Kuwait passed away earlier in the day.
The individual had been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Homagama Base Hospital and is the country’s 11th COVID-19 death, according to the Department of Government Information. The Health Promotion Bureau states that Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 fatality rate is 0.67%.
The number of confirmed cases rose to 1,643 yesterday, with the identification of 10 new cases. Of these, six were foreign returnees, including four returnees from Bangladesh and one from Belarus, and two were Navy personnel.
Of the cases identified thus far, 530 are imported cases, of which three are foreigners, and the rest are local cases. Of these, 800 are Navy personnel and their close contacts.
10 persons recovered from COVID-19 yesterday and 811 have recovered so far. The new recoveries include four from the Colombo East Base Hospital, three from the NIID, and one each from the Welikanda Base Hospital, Navy Hospital, and Homagama Base Hospital.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, there are 821 patients under medical care, including 145 at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), 110 at the Navy Hospital, 107 at the Hambantota District General Hospital, and 100 at the Homagama Base Hospital.
In addition to this, 65 suspect patients, including nine at the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) Hospital and eight at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, are currently under investigation.
The Defence Ministry stated that 58 persons left for home having completed a three-week quarantine process at centres in Gannoruwa, Kundasale and Boossa yesterday. According to the Sri Lanka Navy, 14 of these persons left the Boossa Quarantine Centre yesterday. They added that 99 are yet to complete the quarantine process at this centre and 218 persons have left the centre.
A total of 5,108 individuals are at the 44 quarantine centres managed by the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, and Sri Lanka Air Force, and 11,488 persons have undergone the quarantine process at these centres.
