Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena stressed the importance of enhancing professionalism in public and private sectors for economic revival and praised the Institute of Supply and Material Management (ISMM) for its contribution to the economy by imparting required professional expertise to youth.
Addressing the International Seminar held in Colombo on Monday to mark the 50th Anniversary of ISMM, he urged the participants to explore ways and means of improving supply chain to smoothen supply of requirements for growth of production.
He praised the ISMM for rendering yeomen service to Supply Chain Management students to improve their lot by following these valuable courses for the betterment of the country’s economy.
“The theme of the International Seminar, ‘Elevating the Economy through Innovative and Sustainable Supply Chain Solutions’ is most appropriate and timely as it could provide solutions to supply chain issues exacerbated due to the current unprecedented economic crisis,” he said.
ISMM has been the pioneer in Supply Chain education for the last five decades and has trained over thousand diplomates in addition to the thousands of other successful students who followed Management and Certificate Level programs, the Prime Minister pointed out.
“Many of ISMM diplomates are holding the highest positions in the Supply Chain divisions of reputed organisations in Sri Lanka and worldwide. Supply Chain Professionals are contributing a very valuable service to enhance the economy of Sri Lanka. This is indeed a vital role they are executing in the field of Supply Chain Management, whether they are in Government or private sector organisations,” Prime Minister Gunawardena said.
Finance Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena delivered the keynote address.
Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana, Media Secretary Anusha Palpita, ISMM President Sarath Gamage, ISMM past President and Founder Member Gerry Hidelaratchi and other office-bearers of ISMM were also present at this occasion.
