PM tours Colombo Port City Project on its 6th anniversary

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa joined the observation tour of the Colombo Port City Project yesterday, marking its sixth anniversary of the project. The Prime Minister observed the light dock in the Port City, public beach and visited the Aqua Golf Course which is established there. The Premier also took a shot at golf. Later, the Prime Minister planted a May tree to mark the occasion in the Port City Central Park.

The Prime Minister also visited the Faculty of Exhibition under the Model of the Port City under construction and inquired about the infrastructure development of the ongoing project.

“Today marks the sixth anniversary of this project initiated by the President of China and myself. Work on the project was delayed for about two years due to some recent events. Work on the Port City project has now resumed. The Colombo Port City Project is set to become the main source of income for Sri Lanka in the future. The project will create about 83,000 jobs. The total investment for this project is $ 15 billion,” Prime Minister said. 

The Premier also expressed his gratitude to the Chinese Government for assisting Sri Lanka in the construction of the Colombo Port City. 

Noting that the National Day of People’s Republic of China falls on 1 October and next year marks 100 years since the formation of the Chinese Communist Party, Prime Minister extended best wishes to all Chines people from all Sri Lankans.
