PNB destroys 769kgs of cocaine

A total of 769 kg of cocaine seized by law enforcement agencies was destroyed at a warehouse in Maguruwela, Kelaniya yesterday under the directions and participation of President Maithripala Sirisena.

The destruction was executed publicly complying with international standards in order to create awareness among the general public as to what authorities do to those drug hauls seized by the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB).

Accordingly, the drug hauls are destroyed by the PNB was valued over Rs. 10.9 billion.

On 15 January last year, the PNB publicly destroyed a stock of 926 kg of cocaine seized in a raid conducted in 2016.
