Contrary to the announcement made on Wednesday, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) yesterday approved the Ceylon Electricity Board’s request to extend the daily power cuts to two hours and 20 minutes from today. The new decision came just after a day PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said the CEB request for longer power cuts from Thursday was declined, citing they could not justify the proper reasons for the extended power cuts.

As per the new schedule, the extended power cuts will be enforced from today till Sunday.

Thereby, Groups A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, and W will experience power cuts for one hour during daytime and one hour and 20 minutes at night.

“The power cuts were extended considering the unavailability of Old Laxapana Stage 1, lack of fuel at Westcoast, and the sudden increase in electricity demand,” Ratnayake explained yesterday.
