Parliament dissolved – election on 14 Nov.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, exercising the powers vested in him under Article 70 of the Constitution, dissolved Parliament effective from midnight yesterday and summoned the new Parliament to convene on 21 November.

Additionally, the date for the Parliamentary General Election has been set for 14 November with the nomination period specified to be from 04 October to 11 October.

Following the resignation of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Dissanayake appointed an interim Cabinet consisting of three Ministers, including himself. Another Cabinet member is expected to be sworn in soon, bringing the total to four, with 15 portfolios to be divided among them.
