A decision was taken at the party leaders’ meeting yesterday to hold an adjournment debate on the Channel 4 documentary revelations relating to the 2019 Easter Sunday attack. Accordingly, the debate will take place on 21 and 22 September.

Commenting on the Easter Sunday attack and calls for investigations, opposition leader Sajith Premadasa speaking in Parliament yesterday questioned if Sri Lanka needs instructions from foreign countries on how to conduct a probe into the heinous terror attack.

He stated that the sole division regarding this matter is between those pursuing the truth and those trying to hide the truth behind the attack.

Premadasa remarked that the Government’s appeals for unity are in vain, especially when its own members have been implicated in the attack and established a Government as a result of it.

He also challenged the Government to hand over investigations into the attack to SSP Shani Abeysekara who was victimised by the Government. “I urge the President to handover the case to him. He is an officer trusted by the President as well,” he noted.
