A special meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Affairs is scheduled to be held today at 2 p.m. under the chairmanship of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena to discuss the future political affairs of the country.
The appointment of a new President after Gotabaya Rajapaksa leaves the Presidency and the formation of a new Government will be discussed at the meeting.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the main political parties have held several special discussions yesterday regarding the current situation in the country.
SJB MP Rajitha Senaratne said that when the President and the Prime Minister leave their positions, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa will be appointed as the alternative Prime Minister. Attending a press conference held yesterday, he stated that it is happening according to parliamentary democracy.
However, Frontline Socialist Party (Peratuhami) General Secretary Kumar Gunaratnam said that whichever party forms the Government, they will have to deliver on the expectations of the Aragalaya community.
