Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said yesterday that a special pension for expatriate workers will be introduced, and that a pension system will be introduced to expatriate workers in the next few weeks.
The preparation of a pension system for expatriate workers has been discussed for many years, and the Minister instructed the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau to take necessary steps to implement the pension system immediately. Accordingly, this pension system was introduced with the support of the Sri Lanka Social Security Board.
The Minister also stated that the workers legally registered with the Foreign Employment Bureau and leave for foreign employment would have the opportunity to claim this pension.
For pension for expatriate workers, workers have the opportunity to pay premiums in foreign currency. If an employee dies while paying the assistance, the appropriate compensation will be paid by the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau. After that, the benefits will be delivered to the respective legal owners.
According to this pension system, expatriate workers can get a pension ranging from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 100,000. If 25% of the contribution amount for the worker’s pension is given, unique opportunities are given to foreign employment agencies that send workers abroad.
