The Police said yesterday that 146 suspects have been arrested over this week’s clashes in Kandy.
Two teenagers were also arrested for spreading false information via social media
On Thursday the main instigator of the riots identified as Amith Weerasinghe, a Sinhalese known for anti-Muslim activism and extremist social media posts, was arrested.
The Police also said that 51 complaints have been received on damages to houses and businesses. Another 12 complaints on damages to vehicles have also been recorded by the Police, which noted only 4 mosques were attacked, though the community maintains a much higher number.
Despite civilian life returning to normalcy in Kandy, the Police has imposed curfew in the area except Kandy MC limits, from 8 p.m. yesterday, until 5 a.m. today.
