Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara has issued a series of directives to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), addressing matters of senior management promotions and organisational reforms.

In a meeting held with the CEB’s Chairman, General Manager, and Directors, Minister Wijesekara underscored the need for ministry approval in the promotion process and the immediate implementation of a significant board decision.

During the meeting, Minister Wijesekara instructed the CEB to seek the ministry’s approval for the promotions of senior management personnel.

This move aims to ensure transparency and accountability in the promotion process within the organisation.

Furthermore, the Minister directed the immediate implementation of a board decision that was slated for execution in 2025. The decision pertains to the minimum service period required for promotions to the positions of Deputy General Managers (DGMs) and Assistant General Managers (AGMs). Effective immediately, a minimum service period of three years will be required for promotions to the position of DGM, and two years for AGMs.

Taking to Twitter to share the updates, Minister Wijesekara noted that due to the upcoming retirement of the current General Manager next month, steps must be taken promptly to nominate suitable candidates for the role. These nominees should possess prior administrative experience and a minimum of three years of service remaining before retirement. Ministry approval is necessary for these nominations.

The meeting also delved into various reform initiatives for the CEB. Discussions encompassed power generation plans, efficient asset management, strategies to curtail administrative and operational costs, and other pertinent issues related to the functioning of the CEB.

As the CEB navigates these changes, the directives provided by Minister Wijesekara are poised to have a significant impact on the organisation’s management structure, promotion processes, and operational efficiency. The implementation of these measures will likely shape the trajectory of the CEB’s operations in the coming years.
