President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena yesterday congratulated Shehan Karunatilaka on winning the prestigious Booker Prize for his second novel “The Seven Moons of Maali Almedia.”
President’s Media said Wickremesinghe congratulated Shehan on becoming the second Sri Lankan-born author to receive the prize.
Prime Minister Gunawardena said the contribution by Shehan to yet again raise the Sri Lankan creative writing to international heights is highly appreciated.
I am sure, the Sinhala readers will be pleased to receive a translation of “Seven Moons of Mali Almeida” the book that has brought international recognition to Sri Lanka for the second time in the Man Booker Awards as early as possible. “I take this opportunity to congratulate Shehan Karunathilake for his multi-tasking presence including journalism and creative writing and wish him every success in future endeavours,” the Premier added.
