Cabinet yesterday appr-oved a proposal for President Maithripala Sirisena to retain his official residence, which he now occupies at Mahagama Sekara Mawatha, Colombo 7, following the end of his term of office.
The Cabinet proposal was made by Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera. Former Presidents are entitled to an official residence and security detail as well as a pension.
President Sirisena has occupied the residence at Mahagama Sekara Mawatha (formerly Pajet Road) since 2015 and not resided in the President’s official residence at Fort.
Former Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa and Chandrika Kumaratunga, along with former First Lady Hema Premadasa, have been given official residences in Colombo.
