President allows import of electric bikes

President Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as the Finance, Economic Stabilisation, and National Policies Minister has allowed the importation of electric bikes from 23 August.

Electric bikes were among the items banned in 2021 to save the limited foreign reserves.

In a Gazette notice issued on 23 August, President Wickremesinghe has allowed the import of electrical bikes subject to import licenses.
