President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday appointed a nine-member committee to implement the proposed solutions to resolve the issue surrounding the Medical Faculty of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM).
The committee will also comprise three observers from three relevant organisations. It will be headed by the Deputy Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs Dr. Harsha de Silva.
The other members of the committee are Janaka Sugathadasa - Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine; D.C. Dissanayake - Secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education and Highways; Prof. Mohan de Silva – Chairman of the University Grant Commission; Prof. Colvin Gunaratne – Chairman of the Sri Lanka Medical Council; Prof. Lakshman Dissanayake - Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo; Prof. Sampath Amaratunga - Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura; Prof. Jenifer Perera – Dean of the University of Colombo and Prof. Nilanthi de Silva – Dean of the University of Kelaniya.
The three observers are from the Government Medical Officers’ Association, Medical Faculty Lecturers’ Association and Medical Students’ Parents Association.
