President discusses measures to boost Govt. revenue with Customs, IRD

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Wednesday discussed measures to boost Government revenue and improve operational efficiency in line with the broader economic mandate.

A host of measures were discussed during a meeting chaired by President with officials of Sri Lanka Customs Department and the Inland Revenue Department. Treasury Secretary Mahinda Siriwardana was present as well.

During the meeting, officials from both departments presented the challenges they face in managing revenue and tackling tax evasion. They stressed the importance of strengthening coordination between the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) and Customs to effectively combat these issues. It was highlighted that better collaboration would ensure more robust enforcement of tax laws and prevent tax leakage, further boosting the country’s revenue collection.

Representing the Sri Lanka Customs Department were Director General P.B.S.C. Nonis, Additional Directors H.W.S.P. Karunaratne, C.S.A. Chandrasekara, W.S.I. Silva, S.P. Arukgoda, J.M.M.G. Wijeratna Bandara, Senior Deputy Director A.W.L.C. Weerakoon and CFO M.R.G.A.B. Muthukuda.

From the Inland Revenue Department, Commissioner General W.S. Chandrasekara, Deputy Commissioners B.K.S. Shanta, J.A.D.D.B.K. Siriwardena, J.D. Ranasinghe, D.M.N.S.B. Dissanayake, H.H.S. Samantha Kumara and Senior Commissioner T.M.S. Thennakone.
