President Maithripala Sirisena on Saturday emphasised that irrespective of political differences social justice should be delivered to all when considering issues related to the land rights of the people in the country.
The President further said that if the priority was given to rupees and cents while dealing with programs to provide benefits and they are implemented in a corrupted and malice manner, as a government whatever land policy implemented there is no benefit to the people
The President made these remarks addressing a ceremony held at the Royal College in Polonnaruwawhich was organized to distribute 1053 land deeds to the farmers in the district.
President Sirisena said that when speaking about land rights we can see over our history of the country, in which one could recall many tearful incidents and pointed out that among the people there was no pleasing attitude towards the institutions which are work on land issues.
The President emphasized the need of delivering just and accurate decisions when giving decisions on land settlements as well as giving title deeds, and he also said that if that doesn’t happen, it would be an injustice unjust to a entire generation.
This program to distribute 1053 land deeds to the farmers in the Polonnaruwa district, under the national program to distribute one million deeds, was held under the patronage of President MaithripalaSirisena.
During this ceremony title deeds were handed over to the farmers in Tamankaduwa, Lankapura, Polonnaruwa, Elahera and Medirigiriya Divisional Secretariat Divisions.
In parallel to these distributions of deeds, handing over of ‘PoojaBhumi’ title-deeds for 3 temples for the development of the Buddha Sasana, allocation of a land for a mosque to further strengthen religious reconciliation, distribution of 14 deeds for state institutions to enhance efficiency and giving lands for the use of schools was also held.
The President presented the special title deed of the land which will be used to construct the Polonnaruwa Kidney Hospital to Dr.SampathIndika Kumara.
Ministers GayanthaKarunathilaka, W.D.J. Senevirathne, AkilaVirajKariyawasam, State Minister T.B. Ekanayake, MP NalakaKolonne, public servants including the District Secretary RanjithAriyarathna and others participated in this event.
