President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday expressed confidence that it will be possible to lift the current state of emergency by the end of this week.
Pointing out that the country is gaining stability, he said under such circumstances there was no requirement to extend the state of emergency any further.
The President referred to this likelihood during his address at the Annual Conference and Awards of the Organisation of Professional Associations yesterday.
The Daily FT in its editorial yesterday called for the removal of the state of emergency as well citing the same reasons indicated by President Wickremesinghe last evening as well as public interest litigation. (See https://www.ft.lk/ft_view__editorial/End-the-state-of-emergency/58-738706)
Speaking further, the President pointed out that many measures are being taken for the progress of the country and the support of all parties was needed for the effort.
He also said that the Government is focusing on establishing a diaspora office in Sri Lanka in order to get the support of the diaspora for Sri Lanka’s future development.
