President Ranil Wickremesinghe will address the National Law Conference 2023/24 on Saturday, 3 June at The Grand in Nuwara Eliya.
Organised by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, the three-day event will kick off today evening.
The President will deliver the opening remarks on Saturday during the morning session on the theme “Ease of Doing Business within a Conducive Legal Framework.”
The keynote will be delivered by Supreme Court Judge Priyantha Jayawardena PC.
The ease of doing business session panelists include K. Kanag-Isvaran PC, Faiszer Musthapha PC and BASL President Kaushalya Navaratne.
The morning session includes a panel on “Overview on the role of law in economic recovery and business vitality.” It will feature JKH Chairperson Krishan Balendra, BOC Chairman Ronald Perera PC, CHEC Port City Colombo Managing Director Yang Lu, Amana Bank PLC CEO Mohamed Azmeer, Prime Group Chairman P. Brahmanage, Capital Maharaja Organisation Group Director Nimal Cook, Hirdaramani Group Chairman Vinod Hiradaramani, Akbar Brothers Group Managing Director Tyeab Akbarally, Richardson Group Managing Director Nazri Nizar, Lanka IOC PLC Managing Director Deepak Das and SLT CEO Janaka Abeysinghe.
Afternoon includes several parallel sessions.
At the session on role of good governance in sustainable economic development under Public Law panelists include RTI Commissioner of India Y. K. Sinha, Judge A. H. M. D. Nawaz, Judge Janak de Silva, Judge S. Rajakaruna and Faiszer Musthapha PC.
The session on land law will see Judge E.A.G.R. Amarasekara, Judge Frank Gunawardhana, Jagath Wickramanayake PC and G. G. Arulpragasam Attorney-at-Law as panelists.
On Sunday the first session will be on “The importance of equality of good governance and sustainable development.” The panelists are Judge S. Thurairajah PC, Prof. Deepika Udagama, Farzana Jameel PC.
Another session will be on “Role of ADR for economic development” with panelists being Judge Arjuna Obeyesekerem Kushan de Alwis PC, Avindra Rodrigo PC, Jagath Wickramanayake PC, SIAC Deputy Registrar V. Neelanantan.
