Presidential election date to be announced today 

The Election Commission of Sri Lanka (ECSL) is set to announce the highly anticipated date for the Presidential election today through an Extraordinary Gazette notification.In a statement following a meeting at the ECSL held yesterday, Chairperson R.M.A.L. Rathnayake announced that the commission has decided to publish an Extraordinary Gazette Notification on 26 July which will proclaim the date for the Presidential election and the nomination date in accordance with the provisions of the Presidential Elections Act, No. 15 of 1981.

Furthermore, the ECSL also announced that it holds no responsibility for the statements made by various persons and parties regarding the date of the Presidential poll and other constitutional functions.

The ECSL convened a meeting yesterday to finalise the date for the upcoming Presidential election and the date for the calling of nominations.

The commission had previously announced that the preliminary arrangements for conducting the Presidential election have already been completed.
