The strike action launched by the Sri Lanka Private Fuel Bowser Owners Association has been temporarily called off, following the authorities agreeing to increase 50% of the demanded cost of transportation.

The private fuel bowser owners called off the strike action after Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) Chairman assured that their demands will be addressed within two months.

The strike action was initiated by the bowser owners at midnight on Saturday demanding an increase in transportation costs in line with the recent fuel price revision.

“Although we requested a 60% hike, authorities agreed only to a 30% increase,” SLPFBOA Co-Secretary D.V. Shantha said.

Given the financial situation of the economy, the CPC and the inconveniences caused to people by having to remain in queues to obtain fuel, he said the members of the association temporarily suspended the strike action.

He added that the CPC Chairman agreed to consider the pricing formula within two months and to update the formula in place.

Shantha assured that the distribution of fuel to filling stations resumed immediately thereafter.
