RW promises Presidential and Parliamentary polls for 2024

President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday confirmed that both Presidential and Parliamentary elections scheduled for 2024 will go ahead as planned 

In his address to Parliament during the debate on the Appropriation Bill for 2024, Wickremesinghe clarified that the elections would not be postponed, laying to rest concerns raised by the opposition regarding potential delays.

 This assurance came in response to a question raised by Chief Opposition Whip MP Lakshman Kiriella. 

“We have established democracy in this country. So how can you say we are scared to hold elections? The elections will be held. Both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections will be held next year,” he said.

The President also assured that all local and provincial council elections could be conducted in the following year, emphasising that there were no impediments to the process.
