Former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa should have left politics at the end of his second term as President, his older brother MP Chamal Rajapaksa told Parliament yesterday.
“I feel that, had the Prime Minister left after his second term as President, he would not be facing the hurt he is facing today. In politics we have to learn to let go. If we are greedy for such positions then we will face such predicaments,” Rajapaksa said.
He said that for Buddhists in particular learning to let go is an important part of their religion. “It is good to learn to let go and leave at the right time,” he said.
Rajapaksa also said that the current Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is a very lucky person as he has become PM with a single seat in Parliament. “In 2015 also, he became PM without a majority and now with a single seat he is PM. But today we must all get together and work to overcome the problems faced by the people,” he said.
He also took a dig at former Secretary to the President P.B. Jayasundera saying that during the different periods he served as Secretary to the Treasury and later as President’s Secretary, it had ended with the economic collapse in the country
