In a final appeal ahead of the 21 September election, President Ranil Wickremesinghe issued a special statement on his social media platforms and television, urging voters to support his candidacy.

Wickremesinghe highlighted the accomplishments of his administration, particularly in restoring stability to Sri Lanka following the economic and political crises.

“I am addressing you while engaged in a very tiring election campaign, trying to win every vote possible,” the President said, calling on the public to rally behind him. He emphasised his pride in what was achieved through the “Aragalaya” movement, which saw mass protests across the country in 2022, eventually leading to the resignation of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Wickremesinghe credited his Government with restoring order, halting the chaos that had engulfed the streets, and leading the country out of economic darkness. “We gave light to the country that was in darkness, eradicated hunger, and returned our loving motherland to normalcy,” he said.

The President warned that if his leadership is not continued, the hard-fought progress could be at risk. “If we turn back, all this will be endangered,” he cautioned, urging voters to reflect on the stability achieved under his Presidency.
