Ranil sworn in as 8th Executive President

Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as the eighth Executive President yesterday before Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya at a simple ceremony held at the Parliament. 

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, and heads of the armed forces and the Police were among those present. Prime Minister Wickremesinghe on Tuesday was chosen as the interim President via a secret ballot by Members of Parliament to serve the remainder of the term of the ousted President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
