Ranil telephones Modi; to attend swearing-in ceremony

President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday accepted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation to attend his swearing-in ceremony on Saturday, a statement issued by the President’s Media Division noted.

In a phone call yesterday, the President extended his congratulations to the Indian Prime Minister, following the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) recent electoral victory.

He lauded Modi on his coalition’s success and expressed his best wishes for the third term. 

The conversation also included an invitation from Prime Minister Modi for Wickremesinghe to attend his swearing-in ceremony, which the President accepted highlighting the strong bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and India.

The swearing-in ceremony which is scheduled to be held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan is expected to draw significant attention, with global leaders likely in attendance.
