Ranil to contest Presidency as national candidate: UNP

The United National Party (UNP) has proposed incumbent Ranil Wickremesinghe as National Presidential candidate at this year’s election tipped to be in September. 

Party sources said the decision to this effect was made by UNP Management Committee held yesterday.

The move is expected to garner widespread support from multiple parties, sources said.

They claimed the President has also decided to have the Parliamentary elections in January 2025 and the Provincial Council Elections in March 2025.

The UNP Management Committee met in Colombo under the chairmanship of Wickremesinghe whilst deputy leader Ruwan Wijayawardena, and MP Vajira Abeywardena were present as well.
