Red Wings becomes third Russian carrier to deploy direct flights to SL

• To operate twice per week service from Wednesday at Mattala Airport
• Russian Federation emerged top source market for SL tourism in November and among top 3 in first 11 months of 2022

Red Wings, a national carrier of the Russian Federation, will start charter flight operations to Sri Lanka’s Mattala International Airport twice per week with effect from 28 December.

It will be the third Russian airline serving direct flights to Sri Lanka according to the Sri Lanka Embassy in Moscow.

The Russian Federation is Sri Lanka’s third biggest source for tourists so far this year. Despite the war with Ukraine and associated tensions, there had been 71,309 Russian tourists accounting for 11.4% of the total in the first 11 months of this year. In November, Russian Federation became the top source market for Sri Lanka tourism with a share of 23% or 13,820 tourists.

Red Wings was established in 1999 and was originally known as Airlines 400. It got its current name in 2007. Red Wings is one of the ten largest Russian airlines, specialising in scheduled and charter passenger transportation.

The itinerary network of Red Wings consists of more than 100 Russian and international destinations. It performs scheduled and charter passenger services in Russia and abroad. The airline has its home base at Domodedovo Airport in Moscow, Koltsovo Airport in Ekaterinburg, Pulkovo Airport in Saint Petersburg, Balandino Airport in Chelyabinsk and Zhukovsky Airport near Moscow. The company’s fleet consists of 24 aircraft: 11 Airbus 321s, four Airbus 320s, seven SSJ100s and two Boeing 777s.
