Cabinet this week approved a proposal by the Ministries of Power and Tourism to extend relief measures offered to electricity consumers and establishments in the tourist trade who have been challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Minister of Mass Media and Cabinet Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella, a six-month long grace period will be given to domestic, commercial and industrial electricity consumers within the areas isolated for more than 14-days continuously, in order to settle the electricity bills pertaining to the specified period.
The grace period will be from the date of the applicable energy bill and the notice to avoid interruption of service.
There will also be a facility to settle electricity bills from March to December 2020 of the film theatres registered under National Film Corporation (NFC) in 12 equal instalments from the date of the relevant bill and avoid interruption of electricity connection until such time.
Further, and opportunity will be given to pay electricity bills and water bills piled up from 1 March 2020 to 28 February 2021 of the inns registered under Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), and thereof avoid interruption of both.
