The Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting on Monday agreed to amend the Rent Act No. 7 of 1972 in keeping with current developments.
The Government said the existing provisions of the Act were outdated and failed to achieve the original objectives of providing shelter for the poor and protecting tenants and were making modern housing and property development challenging.
An interim report on the Amendment of the Rent Act has been submitted by the Legal Consultative Committee on House Rent. Towards achieving this objective the Cabinet approved Justice Minister Ali Sabry’s proposal to advise Legal Draftsman to prepare a Draft Bill.
