President Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his capacity as the Finance Minister, yesterday appointed PC Ronald Perera as the Chairman of the Bank of Ceylon (BOC).
This is the second term as Chairman of BOC for Perera as he served in that capacity from January 2015 to November 2019.
He succeeds Kanchana Ratwatte, who served as Chairman from 2 January 2020.
Perera is also the current Chairman of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation.
He was appointed as a President’s Counsel in 2012 and is an experienced lawyer with a broad practice in the original courts, in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
Perera has experience in Civil and Criminal litigation, negotiation and drafting of commercial contracts.
He has specialised in Commercial Law, Banking Law, Industrial Law, Injunctions, Defamation, Election Petitions, Civil Appeals, Revision Applications, Writ Applications, and Fundamental Rights Cases.
Additionally, he has appeared in several Commercial Arbitrations and has challenged the validity of several bills before the Supreme Court.
Perera is an LLB graduate from the University of Colombo and holds an LLM in International Trade Law from Northumbria University. He is an alumnus of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo where he completed his primary and secondary education.
