Cabinet has given approval for the Government to accept a Rs. 1.3 billion grant from the Japanese Government to purchase medical equipment to mitigate COVID-19.
The Government of Japan has given its consent to award an grant of Yen 800 million (approximately Rs. 1,360 million) under a Japanese non-project grant scheme for the supply of medical equipment required for strengthening the activities of prevention of COVID-19 pandemic situation within Sri Lanka. Medical equipment such as MRI scanners, CT scanners, bedside X-Ray systems, central monitors, bedside monitors and defibrillators can be obtained under the grant.
Therefore, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal submitted by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Finance, Economic and Policy Development Minister for obtaining the said grants as well as to sign the agreements pertaining to it.
