Russel Fonseka new GM at BOC from mid-January 2023

The Bank of Ceylon has announced the appointment of Russel P.H. Fonseka as the new General Manager with effect from 14 January 2023.

At present Fonseka is the Additional General Manager/Chief Financial Officer. He will succeed K.E.D. Sumanasiri who is scheduled to retire in January 2023. Fonseka is a career banker and has over 33 years of experience in Bank of Ceylon and has played a pivotal role towards the success of the Bank by deploying his expertise in many varied roles which include Retail Lending, Corporate and Offshore Banking, International Operations, Treasury and Investment. Fonseka specialises in Financial Management, Financial Reporting and Strategic Planning in the field of Banking.

A graduate with a B Sc. Degree in Business Administration from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka, Fonseka also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) Sri Lanka. He has also obtained a MBA from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia.

Fonseka is a Senior Fellow Member of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka and a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka. He has completed the Advanced Management Programme conducted by the Harvard Business School of USA.

Fonseka serves as a Director on the Boards of Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka and Finance PLC, Property Development PLC, Lankapay Ltd., and Transnational Lanka Records Solutions Ltd.

He was appointed to the Governing Council of Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka with effect from February 2020 and currently serves as the Immediate Past President of the Council. He also serves as a member of the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board (SLAASMB).
