The Supreme Court has determined that none of the clauses in the proposed Central Bank Bill is inconsistent or violates the Constitution.
Speaker of House Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced the determination of the Supreme Court at the commencement of yesterday’s Parliament sitting.
The proposed Bill was presented to Parliament last month, and upon its enactment, it will be the governing legislation of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
Accordingly, the Supreme Court has determined that the proposed Central Bank Bill can be passed by a simple majority in Parliament, subject to amendments mentioned in the determination.
