The Supreme Court this week dismissed the Fundamental Rights petitions filed by several students seeking a postponement of G.C.E Advanced Level Examinations.
These petitions came up for consideration on 22 November 2023, before a bench of the Supreme Court composed of Justice Padman Surasena and Justice Achala Wengappuli.
One petition was withdrawn by the petitioners and the other petition filed by three students were taken up for consideration.
W.A.D. Hemaka Neminda, a student of Nalanda College Colombo sought to intervene in the said applications to oppose the reliefs sought by the petitioners seeking a postponement.
A group of students from Sirimavo Balika Vidyala, Colombo too sought to intervene to oppose the postponement of the examination.
Lakshan Dias, Attorney-at-Law appeared for the petitioners and W.A.D. Hemaka Neminda, the proposed intervenient petitioner was represented by Charitha Jayawickrema, Attorney-at-Law instructed by Pasan Galappaththi, Attorney-at-Law.
The group of students from Sirimavo Balika Vidyala, Colombo were represented by Sulari Gamage, Attorney-at-Law.
