Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Deputy General Secretary Mujibur Rahman has lauded the Supreme Court decision upholding the SJB Working Committee’s decision to expel party MPs Harin Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara.

Rahman speaking to the media outside the courts yesterday said it was a historic decision.

“As the SJB, we have long been committed to ending this corrupt political system. The corrupt political culture in this country must be completely eradicated,” he stated.

Rahman emphasised that the Court’s judgement has only strengthened their resolve and mission.

He hailed the court order as a historic decision against the practice of MPs crossing over for personal gain, which violates the people’s mandate.

SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduama Bandara speaking to the media announced that SJB Galle District Candidate Bandulal Bandarigoda, who received the next highest votes after Nanayakkara will replace the ousted MP.

“As Harin Fernando was appointed through the national list, the party working committee and management committee will discuss and decide on who will be appointed in his stead,” he said. However, the party said it will not make the appointments before the 21 September Presidential Election.
