The main Opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) is rallying people for a countrywide protest walk against what it claimed as the “curse-filled” and “problems-piling” Government on 16 November.

The main event is planned at 2:00 p.m. at Hyde Park – Colombo 2.

SJB MP and Co-Media Spokesman S.M. Marikkar said: “As the alternative Government, the SJB is urging the people to express their displeasure on the failed Government by joining in the protest walk.”

The party has also unleashed multiple videos titled ‘Enough of the curse: We are also coming’ on social media, to drum up support for the protest walk.

The SJB has done a video for each of the burning issues facing the people, including on the shortage of rice, sugar, milk powder, LPG and cement, the ban on fertiliser, the sale of State assets and the increase in the overall cost of living. The creative messaging includes people being fooled by the promise of ‘Vistas of Prosperity,’ as masses suffer whilst a lone family flourishes. The central theme is that the people are cursed and forced to live out the karma of a corrupt regime.

SJB said that the protest march and the rally at Hyde Park was timely as it would be four days after the 2022 Budget presentation and two days ahead of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s birthday.
