SJB MP S.M. Marikkar
Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP S.M. Marikkar said the party will go to the streets against the current ‘Wickremesinghe-Pohottuwa junta’ in January.
“In January, we will join the public in taking to the streets against the actions of the Wickremesinghe-Pohottuwa junta, which is suppressing the people. The SJB is committed to rallying the public against the Government,” he said.
During a press conference in Colombo, the MP also expressed concerns that the Government is making efforts to conclude the term of the parliament and dissolve it prematurely.
“This would lead to the dissolution of the COPE, COPA, and other parliamentary committees. The Government lacks the will to directly remove Ranjith Bandara from the Chairmanship of the COPE. Indirectly ending his term does not necessitate the termination of the parliament,” he remarked.
The MP said despite the claims of the United National Party (UNP), the parliamentary election will be held first as the current parliament has no future.
“In the future, a party advocating for a social democratic economic system is poised to assume power, moving away from the practice of shifting policies. The emergence of a Premadasa-led Government is on the horizon,” he claimed. The MP assured a Premadasa Government will not only resolve the country’s economic issues but also take action against those responsible for the country’s downfall.
The MP further commented that the Government shows no concern for the hardships faced by the people, such as the escalating cost of living and the scarcity of medicines. “If the Government persists in this direction, we will take to the streets in January and demand their removal. The SJB is the most formidable political force in this country; therefore, it bears a responsibility to rally the people against the Government. Ranil Wickremesinghe is a coward,” he asserted.
