The Sri Lanka-IMF program targets a positive 2.3% primary deficit by 2025 as against 6% negative figure in 2021.
Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe said on Tuesday that the target reflects a 6% improvement. Forecast of primary deficit for 2022 is a negative 4%.
CBSL Chief acknowledged that the target is ambitious and requires sharp adjustment given the challenging fiscal imbalances.
The revelation by CBSL Chief at PIMA Strategic Forum on Tuesday was a first since the Government reached a Staff Level Agreement with the International Monetary Fund for a four-year $ 2.9 billion Extended Fund Facility on 1 September.
