SL receives over 40,000 MT fuel consignment from India

Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay yesterday handed over 40,000 MT fuel consignment by Indian Oil Corp (IOC) to Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila.

“India – a committed partner and a true friend of Sri Lanka. High Commissioner handed over 40,000 MT fuel consignment by Indian Oil Corp to Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila yesterday. India-Sri Lanka partnership continues to work towards energy security of Sri Lanka,” the High Commission tweeted.

Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila said the consignment is amidst fresh support of $ 500 million by way of a loan from India to procure oil. He also with the receipt of new consignment the required diesel to CEB is now possible. 

Ports and Shipping Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena said the Indian tanker ship ‘Swarna Pushp’ carrying 38,000 MT diesel arrived at the Port of Colombo last night.

He said steps will be taken to immediately unload the consignment and hand over the fuel to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.
