SL says deeply concerned over deteriorating situation in Gaza

The Government yesterday said it is “deeply concerned” over the situation in Gaza and called on all sides to avoid any action that would lead to further escalation of the situation.

“We are hopeful that sustainable peace will be established in the region soon,” the Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a brief statement.

Al Jazeera said Israel attacks killed nearly 600 as troops invade south, north Gaza. It quoted Israel’s military as saying a ground invasion of southern Gaza’s Rafah was under way and troops were pushing into the north near the town of Beit Lahiya and central areas.

“At least 200 children have been killed since Israel resumed its war on the besieged Palestinian enclave this week,” Al Jazeera said quoting the UNICEF.
