SL welcomes over 93,000 tourists in 1H of April, pushing YTD arrivals to over 816,000

India, UK and Russia emerge as top source markets in 1H of April

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is showing strong signs of growth momentum in 2025, with nearly 94,000 visitors welcomed in the first half of April, propelling the cumulative arrivals to over 816,000 tourists so far.

The country saw an influx of 93,915 visitors in the first half of April alone, marking a 13.42% year-on-year (YoY) increase compared to the same period in 2024. The first half of April arrivals also boosted the year-to-date (TYD) to 816,191 — reflecting a 14% YoY increase.

In the first week of April, Sri Lanka welcomed 44,908 tourists, followed by 44,156 in the second week and 4,851 arrivals on 15 April. This also brought the average daily arrivals for the first 15 days of April to 6,261 — up from 5,520 during the same period in 2024.

For April, Sri Lanka Tourism targets a footfall of 224,710 visitors, with 130,795 tourists expected in the remaining 15 days of the month.

India remained the top source market during the first 15 days of April with 18,220 visitors, followed by the UK with 11,425 and Russia with 8,705 travellers. Other key generating markets included; Germany, Australia, France, China, Bangladesh, the US and Switzerland.

YTD, India also leads as the single largest market with 136,535 arrivals, followed by Russia with 112,273 and the UK with 81,130 visitors.

With these positive trends, Sri Lanka Tourism is pushing ahead with its ambitious targets of attracting 3 million tourists and generating over $ 5 billion in foreign exchange earnings in 2025.
