  • Writes to PM highlighting need to establish a stringent mechanism to maintain essential services by declaring ‘national emergency’
  • Insists on resorting to strict trade union action if Govt. hesitates to take immediate action against two incidents in Matara and Kurunegala

The Sri Lanka Administrative Services Association (SLAS) called on the Government to ensure the safety of State sector employees or take responsibility of the consequences of aggregating public unrest.

In a letter to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the association stressed the need to establish a stringent mechanism to maintain essential services by declaring a ‘national emergency’.

They pointed out that the Matara Divisional Secretary, who visited the Matara Hospital, was forcibly detained by a group of health workers who acted in a manner that violated the ethics of patient care, while the Mayor of Kurunegala and a group had interfered in the duties of the Secretary to the North-Western Province Governor who supervised a program providing fuel.

Thus, the Sri Lanka Administrative Services Association insisted it will resort to strict trade union action if the Government hesitates to implement the law and order immediately on the two incidents.

They also reiterated the urgent need to ensure the safety of all State employees who are reporting to work amidst many difficulties.
