The Sri Lanka-Japan Business Council (SLJBC) expressed its disappointment and concern by the Sri Lankan Government’s continued silence on its participation at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan.

It said this global event is a critical platform for Sri Lanka to showcase its economic potential, attract foreign investment, and strengthen trade relations, particularly with Japan—one of Sri Lanka’s key economic partners. In that context SLJBC is urging the Government to immediately confirm Sri Lanka’s participation at this important global event.

“With over 150 countries already confirming their presence, Sri Lanka’s failure to secure its place risks severe diplomatic and economic consequences. In an era where global exposure is crucial for economic recovery, Sri Lanka cannot afford to remain absent from an event of this magnitude. Japan has been one of Sri Lanka’s most reliable partners in trade, investment, and development assistance, and the lack of a definitive commitment sends the wrong message to both Japan and the international business community,” SLJBC said.

The SLJBC urged the Government to take immediate action to confirm Sri Lanka’s participation. Any further delay would be a lost opportunity for economic growth and a setback for Sri Lanka’s global positioning. “We call upon all relevant authorities to treat this matter with the urgency and importance it deserves,” SLJBC emphasised.
