Despite the political turmoil, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) yesterday asserted that tourists are free to travel to any part of the country and that tourist sites are safe to visit.
Welcoming foreign travellers, SLTPB in a statement said that all regular international flights to Colombo are operating as scheduled, with a noticeable forward momentum in arrival of charter flights over the last 30 days.
“There are no restrictions on travel within the country,” the statement said.
SLTPB further pointed out that Sri Lanka Tourism regularly interacts with leading local travel agents, tour operators and the Tourist Police to ensure tourists feel safe regardless of where tourists travel to within the country.
“There have been no complaints lodged or incidences reported by tourists,” Tourist Police Chief Inspector Prabath Vidanagama confirmed.
The Tourist Police are contactable for any emergency on +94 11 2421 070 or the 1912 tourism hotline, which is available 24 hours for any information.
