  • Charges selfishness of 2 individuals risking interests of 22 million

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday charged the President and Prime Minister of misleading the public even at this critical juncture for the purpose of prolonging their grip on power.

He said the leadership was attempting to use force to suppress the voice and will of the people and remarked the SJB will stand with the people and the youth of this country in their effort.

Premadasa posed a question to President Rajapaksa if he has resigned, or if he is only going away temporarily and plans on returning to power. The SJB Leader condemned what he called misleading tactics by the Government, stating the President said he has resigned at one point, only to find he has not yet resigned, then the so-called appointment of an acting President, and then to find the said appointment was only done later.

“The people have rejected this corrupt, selfish, and power-hungry Government. The Government has been trying to suppress people using force. There has been so much lies and deception. We stand with the people’s power and this corrupt leadership will be defeated by the people. This Government has dragged people into poverty. The people will not tolerate your actions anymore.”

Premadasa also requested members to stand with the 22 million population of Sri Lanka as opposed to protecting two individuals, asking them to not become pawns in the hands of corrupt leaders. He also asked youth engaged in protests to continue their efforts in a peaceful manner and desist from damaging public property and resorting to violence.
